More frustration!
I LOLed big time after reading this page. My personal favorite was the defenition of "Security Host." XD

So lately I've been freaking out over my portfolio. I decided a while back that I was gonna apply to the Disney Apprenticeship Program and now I'm having a panic attack over what the hell do I put in my portfolio? I have a meeting with my director this week and hopefully she'll help me out. I just hate how I have to plan so far in advance for all these internships at different studios, which doesn't give me time to work on my current finals in school.

That and I'm also currently juggling commissions at the same time. x_x Hey [info]cinsangel, can you give me a good kick to the butt for taking so long getting your simple sketch done? I deserve it.

Oh yah, my building also decided to shut the water off from 9am until 2pm. Of course I didn't even find out until this very morning so I didn't have time to shower or anything. Ugh.


Pretty cool, considering Belle was once my favorite Disney Princess. I actually thought I would get Jane.

That's twice I've heard of the Disney Apprentice program. Once was from Makani, who also sees to be having problems with how to create her portfolio. X3

I'm hopefully gonna try out for it, if I think I've improved enough ._. But, good luck to you! I'm sure you'd get it. If I recall correctly, you did meet up with someone from Pixar, who was very interested with your work?

Haha, funny enough, I got Alice. XD

I'm sad though. :( I'm least like Ariel, and she's my favourite princess. XD

Oh, that apprenticeship sounds exciting! Good luck with it! I'm working on one (a portfolio) for Chronicle Books while juggling finals projects too, so I feel your pain..

Does Disney do any fellowships or apprenticeships for graphic design? I know they have internships, but seeing as how I won't be a student for much longer, internships aren't an option anymore. Unfortunately I was never in a position to move to So Cal for an internship there. :(

Good luck with your portfolio, though. That's an extremely stressful thing, trying to figure out how to best represent yourself. I hope you get some helpful advice from your director.

I had no idea what the Disney College Program was so I googled it. Then I got a near brain aneurysm when I watched a video showing just how large the Disney corporation is.

I can just see a security guard leaping in front of a character in slow motion going "Nooooooo!" while a small child stands nearby. Priceless.

Don't you just love when the building decides they want to shut the water off. Sometimes I think mine does it just to mess with my head. Good luck with the portfolio!!

Are Annual Pass Holders really looked down upon by CMs as much as I hear? I'm 99% sure I'll be moving to LA in June and I'm definitely going to get an AP.... should i watch out for bad vibes?

Most of the AP jabs you see online are joking and exaggerating. There are only a few creepy people that give APs a bad name. They tend to think that they could do a better job than CMs and their main hobbies are to point out the downsides and mishaps of the park. They also obsess over certain characters. Just don't let yourself fall into that category.

I was told back in the day when I submitted my portfolio for Ron Husband at Disney to look over, that life drawings was where a portfolio is at. I guess that makes us go "Duh", but really, it was stressed. To put in tons of life drawings. I don't know if that helps, but there you have it. It was just for fun, not for me to get hired in. Anyway, he was on a portfolio review team and said that half of the people who apply don't include NEARLY enough life drawings and include too many finished drawings.

I got Alice! woo first time too! I want to get a AP but for me its like woah too much. I had one for sea world Orlado (hate the place now it is soooooooo cheasy!) and now i currently have a pass to Universal/ Islands of Adventure (which is totally worth it for halloween horror nights mardi gras and all the partays!) anyway to my pont both seaworld and universal have a monthly charge thing witch is easy to keep up. My family just pays 6o$ a month for our passes and we soooooo much special ammenities! They just take it out of the bank. If Disney did a monthly charge thing it would b a great idea! a lot of people will sign up for it i bet.

I too am stressed with my final project, made doubly problematic that my advisor is unhelpful XD

I don't know if it helps any but from what I understand Disney likes to see a lot and I mean a lot of life drawing. I remember one of the animation students in some of my art classes asking some recruiters what they should put in their portfolio and they said that was the number one thing.

I know you have NO IDEA who I am, but I LOVELOVELOVELOVE your stuff. I kinda-sorta stalk you [[in a nice way!]] on DeviantART [[i'm Tasarhina on dA btw.]] and I thought it would be cool to kinda check it out. I read a bit until I got to the part about you going back to AAU and my heart pretty much stopped dead.

See, I live in the-middle-of-nowhere Missouri [[ugh]] and i'm still in HS. It is pretty much my DREAM to get into AAU [[photography!]] and live in San Fran. But see, I also wanted to work with Disney. I am such a hardcore Disneyphyle, its not even funny. + I was wondering how in the WORLD i could swing both AAU and Disney. I was wondering how YOU did it. If you could give me your method of sorts, that would be AMAZING.

If I may just say, I think your work is amazing and has an excelent quality - definitely animation material. Seeing as one of your strongest traits in your job (in my opinion) are facial expressions, perhaps you should emphatize those in the samples you pick.

...But I'm sure your director will know far better than I do. The best of lucks, and try to relax!

This probably won't be helpful in any way, but...

I really hope you include your "Oh yeah... Kinko's" drawing in your portfolio. I think that's a good demonstration of things your portfolio should showcase, even in its rough state.
